The best bodies of water to enjoy the summer in Quebec - Charlotte and Charlie

Les meilleurs plans d’eau pour profiter de l’été à Québec - Charlotte et
Charlie

Beauport Bay

A beach in the city? Of course! Baie de Beauport is a true oasis five minutes from downtown Quebec City. In addition to its magnificent sandy beach along the river and swimming (when permitted), many activities are offered there. Little ones will enjoy the water games and modules, after enjoying an ice cream with their feet in the sand.

Marina Saint-Roch collective space

Even closer to the city centre, the Marina Saint-Roch collective space has helped to revitalise the public swimming pool which dates back to the golden age of concrete, located at the junction of the Saint-Roch and Limoilou districts.

Several activities are organized during the summer to invite people from the area to reclaim the space. Swings, hammocks and lounge areas have been set up and nicely decorated. Not to mention the vast semi-Olympic swimming pool that always delights swimmers.

Sainte-Foy outdoor base

At the Sainte-Foy Outdoor Base , you can stroll in the shade of the trees or let yourself be lulled by the calm surroundings. The supervised beach is a delight for children. Want to get moving? You can also enjoy many activities such as hiking, bird watching, archery or water sports.

The plus: the new reception building is most welcoming.

Valcartier Holiday Village

With 35 slides and 100 water games, 2 themed rivers and a huge wave pool, all heated, it's no wonder that the outdoor water park at Village Vacances Valcartier is one of the most popular attractions in the region. Especially with the new Eldorado attraction that allows you to reach a descent speed of 15 meters per second, or about 50 km/hour.

A word of advice: think safety. Although lifeguards are posted everywhere, have children wear flotation vests ( note that back balloons and floats are not allowed ). Don't have one? VVV lends one.

Mom's tip: Go during the week, outside of construction holidays, if you want to avoid the lines!

Laurentides Beach

Do you know Plage Laurentides? Located in the Charlesbourg sector, it is actually the beach of the campsite of the same name. Its small sandy beach and its lake without motorized activities have been delighting families for several years (I went there regularly when I was a teenager!). The plus: the water quality is rated excellent and the site is very safe.

Beauport Outdoor Center

Very close to the prestigious Montmorency Falls, the Beauport Outdoor Center is an enchanting vacation spot for the whole family. A heated pool awaits swimmers while the rental center invites rowers and paddlers to a trip on the Montmorency River.

A tour of the water games

Take a tour of the water games in your borough! Quebec City offers several that always trigger great bursts of laughter among children. They are accessible and free. Among our favorites, a walk in Old Quebec invariably ends in the fountains of the Jardins de l'Hôtel-de-ville.

On the outskirts of Quebec

Feel like hitting the road a bit? Here are two suggestions about an hour from Quebec City. Head to Portneuf to discover the Eau Claire Beach at Lac Simon , which also offers a range of activities in a magnificent natural setting. On the south shore of Quebec City, head to Beauce to have fun on the water slides at the Éco-Parc des Etchemins.

5 essentials to slip into your beach bag:

A sunscreen for sensitive skin

We don't go out without sunscreen anymore! My favorite is Sun Bum's SPF 50 Mineral Stick , which is specially designed for the sensitive skin of little ones, but will be perfect for ours too!

The plus: the stick format allows you to apply it easily and quickly to the face, ears and even just about anywhere, without getting your hands dirty (which will then be full of sand! ;))

A versatile outdoor cover

At the park or at the beach, spread out on the ground this large Little Unicorn outdoor blanket , easy to fold with a handle for carrying, water-resistant and easy to wipe. Who can beat that?

A “truly” adjustable swimsuit diaper

It's unmissable: baby's diaper will be full of sand! To ensure his comfort, I recommend the washable swimsuit diaper .

We love the range of products from the Quebec brand Omaïki, whose swimming diapers “grow” with the child, until he no longer needs them!

Cool, your glasses!

KoolSun Flex sunglasses are simply the perfect fit and design for your mini. Plus, they have a removable, adjustable back strap that keeps them from falling off your baby's face.

An evolving hat

Ah, the famous hats! Which model will protect baby from the sun and stay in place? We bet on the “ Grow-with-me ” models from Jan & Jul , which have received several awards and mentions. They adjust perfectly to baby's head, from one summer to the next, thanks to their two straps. It also offers SPF 50 sun protection. We love it!

Have a great summer with your family!
