“It’s hot!” “What do we do?” you hear several times a day? Answer them with one of these activities in Quebec City, which will get them moving while cooling them down. Get rid of the heatwave!
Have your vacation plans been turned upside down? Take advantage of the nice weather to vary your activities and rediscover Quebec’s parks and popular places. Here are some totally refreshing ideas!
Take a tour of the city's water games
Water games always trigger big bursts of laughter among little ones. Make it an outing: change neighborhoods, prepare a snack and arrange to meet Grandma or friends at the water games. Accessible and free, they are located all over the territory of Quebec City . Among our favorites, we like to picnic in the shade at Parc des Brumes or dip our feet in the fountains of the Jardins de l'Hôtel-de-ville, in Old Quebec.
Learn to swim with an evolutionary jacket
For little fish learning to swim, the Näj jacket is the ally of choice, whether in a pool or at the cottage, in addition to keeping them warm thanks to its neoprene fabric. And what about its surfer style! (note that this is not an approved flotation jacket (PFD))
Enjoy unicorn-shaped ice lollies
Popsicles have been a big hit with kids for a long time. They are still a popular thirst-quenching snack today. But have you ever seen unicorn-shaped popsicles ? That will impress your little gourmands! Psst! Get them involved in the preparation and add berries or replace the juice with your favorite smoothie!
Lounging at the beach… in the city!
This summer, we're going to the beach! Baie de Beauport is a true oasis five minutes from downtown Quebec City. In addition to its magnificent sandy beach along the river and swimming, many activities are offered there. Little ones will enjoy the water games and play modules, after enjoying an ice cream with their feet in the sand.
Having fun on the water slides
The outdoor water park at Village Vacances Valcartier is now open! It is definitely the most popular place to have fun and cool off during hot summer days. But before you go, have you purchased your tickets online? In order to respect social distancing and health standards, the number of places is limited. The good news is that there will be no lineups this summer!
Take a break in a play tent
Whether you're at the beach, the park or simply in the backyard, baby will be protected from UV rays in this Babymoov play tent . It can also be used for the older one's nap or to have a snack protected from mosquitoes!
Swimming at the chalet with the coolest floats
Is your kid reluctant to put his floats on his arms? What if they turned into crocodiles? That's what Sunny Life offers, with fun inflatable floats. We bet your child won't want to take them off!
Watching a movie in the air conditioning
Looking for an activity to relax and escape the heatwave? Let's go to the movies! Le Clap Cinema offers several films, in an air-conditioned and safe environment.
Mom's tip: Buy your tickets online and add popcorn or treats to your order (with contactless pickup).
Visiting Quebec’s creameries
Are you the ice cream, gelato or frozen tofu type? If there's one dessert that's directly associated with summer, it's ice cream! On warm summer evenings, visit one of the region's ice cream shops, there's something for everyone! Among our favourites: we always make a gourmet stop atGlacier Aberdeen in Montcalm, we exclaim over the decadent creations at La Pomme en Cage (pictured) in Beauport, and we're crazy about the new kid on the block in Charlesbourg: La Folle Tablée .
Take a trip around the world… in miniature!
No travel this summer? Visit the permanent exhibition Ludovica Miniland , which offers a real world tour with more than 3,000 miniature models, entirely made of building blocks (there are more than 10 million!). Installed at the Fleur de Lys shopping center, the Quebec exhibition is twice as big as the previous ones. Both architecture and building block fans will be amazed by the skyscrapers, castles and various achievements.
We recently visited the exhibition that has just reopened to the public. The children loved it (as did the parents!). My opinion: the site is easy to access and safe (there is no manipulation). Don't forget to do the rally!
