Family pizza
You don't need to be a big restaurant to welcome families. Several small restaurants in the Limoilou, Saint-Roch and Saint-Sauveur neighborhoods are part of the Certifié Famille project that was set up in 2016.
Among our favorite addresses, the Neapolitan pizzeria Nina is definitely one of the most popular with city families. While waiting for their Madame Charlotte and Monsieur Jules pizza, young customers can color the pizza boxes, and then enjoy their meal with their hands. Even the older ones do it at Nina!
Long live spaghetti!
The first restaurant in Quebec City to receive the Family certification, Spag&Tini , in the Petit Champlain district, does everything it can to make your outing as enjoyable as possible. Among the little touches, we like that the full children's menu always offers an allergen-free option and that the service is adapted to young families. Not to mention the unbreakable dishes, the loan of bibs and a bottle warmer and even a stroller parking area!
Nice games room
Outside the city, at the entrance to Lac-Beauport, Chez Boub has been welcoming families for over 25 years. The larger new building still has a games room that makes children smile and run around. They have a great time after eating, while their parents quietly finish their meal. The little extra: the children's menu is varied and has options that will please all ages.
Sushi for the little ones
Who said kids don't like sushi? They love it at Nicky Sushi ! Adapted to small appetites, the Petit Moussaillon menu offers simple but tasty sushi made with pollock, shrimp and salmon or pieces of General Tao chicken. Available in all three locations.
To the soup!
Fancy a good soup to warm you up? Stop by Soupe & Cie in Limoilou. The best part: it's free at all times for children aged 7 and under who can enjoy a mini-sized soup and choose from Italian, Vietnamese, Mexican and Lebanese.
Italy with a Quebec twist
The Restos Plaisirs group is sensitive to the needs of families. Our favorite is Jaja , a place to drop in with the kids, sometimes unexpectedly, and share a pizza, pasta or a platter of cold cuts in a friendly atmosphere. The best part: the children's menu is completed with a great cake pop !
(in the photo below, our columnist recently visited the Jaja with her two children)
Lunch in Heaven
Treat yourself to a family brunch at Ciel! The view of Quebec City offered by Ciel! Bistro-Bar promises to amaze young and old alike. A special children's menu is offered for brunch, with a French toast brioche and pear and pecan crepes. With its 360-degree panorama of the city (pst! the full one-and-a-half-hour rotation is ideal for enjoying a good meal while contemplating Quebec City), breakfast has never been so exciting!
Funny menus
We also like Le Cochon Dingue which defines the concept of the family restaurant by offering a complete table d'hôte "for kids", affordable and accompanied by the Guide to Little Games to Keep You Waiting .
Free Sundays
A family outing to a restaurant is expensive? Several restaurants in the region offer tempting promotions, including the famous free Sundays. Every Sunday starting at 5 p.m., the four Cosmos restaurants in Quebec City and Lévis welcome the “Cosminus”! One meal from the children’s menu (ages 12 and under) is free per adult. A bonus: children love the trendy decor and atmosphere of Cosmos (as do their parents).
It's also free for kids on Sundays at both Le Manoir restaurants. After the pasta dish, they can top off their meal with a little visit to Glacimo, the great ice cream bar!
Four accessories to take to the restaurant
To keep little ones entertained or to limit the damage caused by clumsy little hands, the Charlotte et Charlie boutique is full of great accessories that are both stylish and practical. Here are four to slip into your diaper bag!
A spill-proof bottle
No more lugging around multiple cups, bottles and jugs. Now you can turn a water bottle into a baby bottle, thanks to the Green Sprouts Bottle Adapter . Awesome!
A foldable bib
Your son absolutely wants to eat spaghetti, even though he's wearing his best shirt? The foldable bib from OXO , made of silicone, has a large pocket that collects food. The best part: the bib rolls up and can be stored in a pocket. We love it!
A portable changing station
Where to change baby? Have everything you need on hand. The Herschel Sprout Changing Pad offers a compact design and multiple storage options. A must-have for out-of-the-way trips.
Games to pass the time
“It’s long!” the children grumble as soon as they arrive? The trick is to keep them occupied. Play with them to observe the details of the restaurant (without getting up), to guess the ingredients of each dish or any other observation game.
Our favorite is the Mini Travel collection from Djeco which includes small memory, guessing and observation games to keep you occupied during long waits or trips.
